The Church's Call to Political Engagement
What happens when Christians step away from politics? The void doesn't remain empty—it gets filled with worldviews and policies that often contradict biblical values. Frank and Darcie Montgomery tackle this crucial topic head-on, challenging the widespread notion that faith and politics should remain separate.
Drawing from both Scripture and American history, the hosts explore how our nation was founded on godly principles, with references to the Divine woven throughout our founding documents, national anthem, Pledge of Allegiance, and currency. They make a compelling case that the current spiritual revival we're witnessing—from campus awakenings to policy shifts—correlates directly with leadership that acknowledges God publicly.
The conversation provides practical guidance for believers wondering how to engage civically without compromising their faith. Prayer for all leaders (regardless of party affiliation) forms the foundation, but the Montgomerys push listeners to do more: vote your values, research candidates thoroughly, attend local government meetings, and even consider running for office yourself. They address the reluctance many Christians feel about political involvement, emphasizing that we're not electing pastors but leaders whose policies align with biblical principles.
With upcoming election cycles on the horizon, this timely episode serves as both encouragement and challenge. God is in control, working through His people when they engage rather than retreat. The spiritual and moral restoration of America depends not just on who sits in positions of power, but on ordinary believers who pray fervently, vote wisely, and engage consistently in the civic process, bringing godly values into every sphere of influence, including government.
you are listening to the restored podcast with frank and darcy montgomery. Welcome back to another episode of the Restored Podcast. My name is Frank and I am alongside my beautiful wife, darcy hey, and we hope that you are having an amazing day. So, darcy, there's been a lot of unrest in the world recently.
Speaker 2:Yes.
Speaker 1:And that's kind of the road that I wanted to go down today.
Speaker 2:Oh, are we talking about politics?
Speaker 1:Let's do it.
Speaker 2:You know how passionate I am about Christians being involved.
Speaker 1:And that's why I wanted for us to talk about this matter today. I feel that the Restored podcast is. God has us doing this to show people.
Speaker 2:His restoration powers.
Speaker 1:His restoration powers, what he can do if someone says, okay, I'm submitting my life to you, god, not my will be done, but yours be done. When that happens, what the power that God uses to transform lives, transform families, transform cities, states and countries.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 1:Is what this podcast is all about. I am proud to be American.
Speaker 2:Me too.
Speaker 1:I was raised in a family that was patriotic Probably not as much as yours, being that you had a stepbrother join the Marines and whenever I came into your family, I mean the entire living room was American-themed American flags, united States Marine Corps memorabilia, everything like that Very patriotic. I remember at a very early age I was under 10 years old when a desert storm started and I remember my mom putting on a presentation at church. It was a Sunday morning. We all had little American flags and I think we sang a few songs, but the song that stands out is the famous Lee Greenwood song. But that memory stands out to me, that in church on a Sunday morning we were singing patriotic songs, we were waving American flags, and I was young, I don't remember it, but if I know my mom like I think I know my mom and my brother-in-law was the pastor of that church at the time there were praying for the troops.
Speaker 2:I'm sure.
Speaker 1:Praying for the leaders that were making decisions.
Speaker 2:And there's been a loss of patriotism, and that's part of what we're seeing going on now. There's a loss of patriotism, there's a loss of respect for authority. In the Bible, we are called to pray for authority, whether we agree with them or not.
Speaker 1:We are called to pray for them and honor them, and honor this country 100 and between desert storm and now, at least in my own personal experience and I think that it's not just my personal experience, I think it's an epidemic in the church to where that patriotism subsided. Right subsided Right and the fact that I think a lot of Christians feel that they are to stay out of politics.
Speaker 2:There is a fear that comes, I think, with the church being in politics, and that's not how it should be, because if we're not up there giving our voices and bringing our prayers and being involved, who's making these laws? Who's bringing these agendas? What agendas are coming in?
Speaker 1:that shouldn't be 100% and I think, when you look back, when you go back, first of all, god created government and God created the civil policies, whatever you want to.
Speaker 2:And I believe as Christians we have a civic responsibility. In the Bible there are many scriptures that tell us what our civil responsibilities are, and I don't have them right here in front of me, but we are to pray for those in power, we are to submit to those in power, we are to understand that they didn't get in these positions without God's hand purposely picking them and putting them in these positions.
Speaker 1:Absolutely not. It's the same today as it was in the Bible, whenever God would appoint kings, when God would appoint rulers. And that's not saying I mean, look at Saul. Saul was a godly man, a righteous man. He followed God's commandments until he didn't Right, and when he didn't, God replaced him. Now I say that, saying not everybody in a high position is following God.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 1:But even if they aren't following God, even if they're making policies that we don't agree with, we are to pray for them, right, we are to pray for their wisdom. We are to pray for their guidance.
Speaker 2:For their protection.
Speaker 1:For their protection, pray for their guidance, for their protection, for their protection. Pray for their salvation yes. So that they would come to know God.
Speaker 2:And that's my prayer right now for the leadership and the people of Iran.
Speaker 1:But that's our first and foremost duty, and I encourage every single Christian, whether you agree with who's in authority and whether it be local, state or federal governments, whoever that is in authority, even if you don't agree with them, I want to encourage you to pray. Pray every day, find out their names and call their name out daily and some of the things that you want to pray for. Like we just said, pray for them to have wisdom when voting on different policies, pray for them to seek God's will and God's guidance, pray for their salvation, pray for their health, for their mental acuity, and pray that they would have compassion for the people that they are serving. So if that's the absolute most that you're willing to get involved in, do that at a minimum.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 1:Every Christian should be doing that, but I think it's time for the church to stand up and to get more involved than just sitting in the background and praying. You mentioned it earlier. If we're not getting involved, if Christians, if the church isn't getting involved, we are leaving all of our governmental policies that are being made. We're leaving that at the hands of whoever.
Speaker 1:Right, we're leaving that at the hands of whoever Right, and most of that we can tell from the laws that have been passed the past 8 to 12 years that the enemy has a stronghold on government.
Speaker 2:Yes, but if you say that there is a reset and a revival, I believe, coming to America and the world, and that's why we're seeing some of these demonic policies that are in place now being changed.
Speaker 1:I think it all starts with this and I want to play a clip and it's of President Trump, and it's of President Trump and this is part of his press conference that he had after the US went in and struck Iran's nuclear facilities.
Speaker 3:And I want to just thank everybody and, in particular, god. I want to just say we love you, god, and we love our great military. Protect them. God bless the Middle East, god bless Israel and God bless America. Thank you very much, thank you.
Speaker 1:Whether you like President Trump or not, this man is in the office that he is in today because of God.
Speaker 2:Yes.
Speaker 1:He is there, he is appointed by God.
Speaker 2:He's been protected to stay in that position to work through all the things that he has accomplished.
Speaker 1:One thousand percent, his life was spared in Butler, pennsylvania. I mean, god did that. He's publicly said that God spared his life and I personally think after that that, I think he believed in God. Before that I think he, you know, was maybe one of those people who had a relationship with God, knew who he was, but didn't have a real close relationship. And now, after that, after you're faced with death, or after God does something major, Yep Miracles will change your perspective.
Speaker 2:when you witness personally or other people's miracles, it will change your perspective. It will change how you view things and I think that's what's happened. Not only that, I will be completely honest with you. I was a never trumper his first term and this time I support him so strongly because he has changed. He's gotten a little bit softer, he's gotten a little bit wiser, he's gotten good counsel around him.
Speaker 1:I don't know if I have ever heard a president say that.
Speaker 2:No.
Speaker 1:Especially internationally, not just nationally. That thing was worldwide Yep, but a worldwide press conference for the President of the United States to stand up there and say we love you. God, right, god.
Speaker 1:He is declaring that he loves God, but he's declaring that this country loves God, and on top of that, he is the most pro-Israel president that we have ever had, and the Bible tells us that those who bless Israel will be blessed and those who curse Israel will be cursed. Right and we've seen that. The previous administration they did everything but help Israel for the most part, and our economy struggled. America was in chaos, with riots, with economic crisis.
Speaker 2:And under his leadership we've seen where not only just the political side but our culture has kind of taken a shift. There's revivals breaking out on college campuses liberal college campuses. There's revivals breaking out on college campuses liberal college campuses. There's revivals breaking out.
Speaker 1:And it starts because when the person is in control, the governing body is in control of a country and they are seeking God's will and God's guidance and they are trying to do what God wants to be done. That country is going to be blessed and we've seen it, not just through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, that we've seen in revivals and lives being changed, but we're seeing it in our country. We're seeing different states turning around, some of these laws that were made in the past six years that were completely ungodly, unbiblical.
Speaker 2:Unconstitutional.
Speaker 1:Unconstitutional, immoral, All of those things. We're starting to see states turn.
Speaker 2:Like Roe v Wade, when that got overturned. That was amazing because it had been in place for so long and there was such an outcry for pro-choice and all of that for that to get turned around. You thought it was a hand of God on that.
Speaker 1:One thousand percent and I'm just. I look at what God is doing in our country and I'm so thankful because I truly feel that America is being restored. When America was founded, it was founded on godly principles. I mean our founding fathers. They left Great Britain for religious freedom. They wanted to worship God their way, without being told what to do or no. You can't worship that God. You have to be a part of this religion or this denomination.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 1:And that's what our country was founded on. You look in our founding documents and it's God Right. Our Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, god's in there. Our national anthem, god is in there. Our coins and our money, our coins. It says in God we trust Our coins and our money, our coins. It says in God, we trust. And for now, for people to say that hey, god doesn't belong in politics, you're wrong. God founded politics. Our country was founded in a godly manner and when you take God out of the equation, like we have done, you get all kinds of chaos.
Speaker 1:You get all kinds of chaos. You get men and women's sports. You get men and women's bathrooms. You get schools telling little boys and little girls that they don't have to be that gender. They can be any gender they want. Heck, if they don't want to be a male or female, they can be a cat.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:And that's what happens when you take God and Christian step out of the political process. And earlier I said that the bare minimum you should do is pray. I lied. The bare minimum you should do is pray and vote Right you should do is pray and vote.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 1:Vote for those candidates that they may not live a Christian life Right. I mean, look at President Trump. I mean especially his first term.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 1:But I mean, and even he still struggles, just like all of us I mean, he dropped an F-bomb the day after this press conference where he's saying we love you God.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 1:Now I say all that to where? We're all humans. We all make mistakes, right the F-bomb a time or two or three or four, since you know I've submitted my life to God, but he is there. He makes mistakes, but you vote for the person that their policies, their voting for policies, align with our value system, and our value system is based on God's value system and biblical standards. And you try to find the candidate all up and down the ticket, starting at the main office president, vice president, down to your congressman, your senators, your state representatives, your state judges, all of that stuff. Learn the candidates, don't just listen to the news. Learn the candidates. Know who you are voting for and vote for the ones that vote according to your ethics.
Speaker 2:Right, and let's not let personalities come into that. Let's not let you know those kind of things. You're not picking a pastor. You're not voting for a pastor. You're not voting for a church leader.
Speaker 2:You're voting for someone to run this country or that office of voting age, did their homework on candidates, and every christian went out and voted every election cycle we could take the country back real easily we could take it back real easily but there's statistics that have come out and I don't know the exact numbers, but there's a huge amount of christians who won't vote at all, like they'll just sit at home because they don't like either candidate, and that messes things up.
Speaker 1:Right, but you have to get out and vote. You have to let your voice be heard.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 1:And so that's the bare minimum. Pray for your leaders and vote, but I encourage you, if you have the wherewithal, go run for a school board. Go run for your local city council. If you've got it in it, run to be a state representative representative. Get involved. If you're not running, go to your local city council meetings.
Speaker 2:Let your voice be heard.
Speaker 1:Be involved. Let your voice be heard. Let them hear what the people are wanting, that are, their constituents had to think of the word there for a second. Constituents had to think of the word there for a second. But my whole purpose for wanting to talk about this is just to give encouragement to our listeners that God is in control and we need to be involved if we want to continue to see America making this turn towards what is right and what is good and what is pleasing to God. We have to get involved. We have to stay involved here. In three years we will enter another election cycle for the president Be involved cycle for the president be involved. In two years we're going to be in an election cycle for for different senators and congressmen and state governors. And just be involved, right, um?
Speaker 2:and don't go into fear. Don't allow fear to creep in when it comes to politics and what you see on the news. Stay in prayer.
Speaker 1:Stay in prayer and allow God to show you. We listen to several different voices and one of the prophets that we listen to and take heart to what they say.
Speaker 2:Because they have a proven track record.
Speaker 1:They have a proven, documented track record. I mean one of his prophecies that he received from God well before Donald Trump was ever elected. The first time he prophesied talking about how God was going to raise up a man out of New York City to lead this country and bring it back. And that man was coming up out of New York City out of the ashes of our hurt and our pain, referring to 9-11. And where's Trump?
Speaker 2:from.
Speaker 1:New York, new York. And so this prophet that we listen to, he has many documented prophecies from God, that a lot of them have come to pass, some still haven't, some still haven't. But he's trusted and I really feel that he is a prophet of God, a modern-day prophet of God, and that God speaks to him, to speak to not only his church, but to the nation.
Speaker 2:Yeah, he's a national prophet.
Speaker 1:He prophesied Trump coming. He prophesied this whole thing with Iran and Israel coming. So do not be afraid, do not be alarmed when things happen. Trust and know that God is in control. Yep, again, I look at this country and I see what God is doing and I see the turn, not just in leadership but in the country as a whole, and I want to see that continue. And it's going to take every single Christian praying, voting, getting involved, not backing down, not shying away from God. So I want to pray for boldness, for people, and this is big for me because I don't. Every industry, every work environment that I've ever been in, you know politics is a subject you stray away from. So, outside of talking politics with you and a few closest friends, I really don't do it a whole lot.
Speaker 2:I do. Ask me how I feel about things, ask me what I believe, and I will tell you.
Speaker 1:But we need to be more vocal and we need to not be afraid of what people will think about us, what they'll say about us, maybe even what they'll do to us. But it is our job as Christians to stand strong on the word of God and to proclaim his truth.
Speaker 2:Yes.
Speaker 1:And if we continue doing that, we will continue to see our country go in the direction that God wants us to go, and when that happens, the country's blessed. And when the country is blessed, that means each and every person living in that country is blessed, and they will reap the benefits of living in a country that is being blessed by God Right, of living in a country that is being blessed by God Right. Did you have anything?
Speaker 2:else that you want to add. I think I'm good.
